You are most definitely a creature of habit, if we are even 15 minutes late at getting you ready for bed at 8:00 we will most certainly hear about it. But no matter how tired, hungry or fussy you are once you begin to eat your dinner all frowns are turned upside down.
In fact they turn into giggles.
Feedings have become lengthy because you like to pause and have a sweet little conversation about life. :) It makes me laugh. Maybe it is delirium that causes your mood change to come about, but I like it.
Leaning your head back and making a little O shape with your lips you begin to coo. Then you stare me in the eyes and smile, and coo. Coo. Coo. Coo some more.
Simply the sweetest sound I've ever heard.
Simply the sweetest sound I've ever heard.
I have to remind you why we are sitting in a chair, in the dark, in our pajamas, listening to ocean waves; yes my dear it's bed time, now finish your dinner.
After you have been fed, softly hummed lullabies fill the air as you suck on your paci and fight shutting your eyes. Now that you like holding things this has turned into a game. You pull out your paci hold it in your hand like a cool cigar and have conversation once more.
No more rocking you to sleep. Nowadays I have to swaddle you and lay you in your crib to signal it's time to sleep my love. While being swaddled you smile and giggle until you're completely wrapped like a burrito with a paci popped in. You turn your head to the side and begin to chill as your eyes flutter to the sound of my humming song.
What a funny little guy you are.
While many mommy's and daddy's fight bedtime with fusses or cries, I am trying not to encourage your "play time" by laughing at you. :) You're something else. Full of personality, and I see years of bedtime fun ahead. You're going to be that kid who "isn't tired" until the moment you pass out.
It's time to sleep my love, my love.
If you haven't read this book I suggest you pick it up. Quite possibly the sweetest bedtime story.
This is such a sweet, sweet post! I'm glad to have "found" your blog--you've got a gift for writing :)
ReplyDeleteMeredith you are so sweet. That comment made my day girly! :)
DeleteEli fights sleep, too. We are working on walking away after he's been fed, changed, and swaddled, but he can't hold the paci in his mouth very well so we find ourselves standing over him, holding in it until he dozes off. Hopefully we'll break this habit soon.
ReplyDeleteBlair, have you tried different paci brands? I know their are multiple brands out there that Henry refused to keep in his mouth but we finally found a fit, which for him happens to be the MAM brand. Good luck I know it's tough. Saw your "cry it out" pic on instagram. :(
DeleteHe's so cute! And growing up too fast...I love bedtime...by far the funnest part of the day..the sweet smell of baby shampoo, the cuddles, the singing, the swaddling..is it 8:00 yet??

Happy to have you here! :)
Deleteoh what a handsome little boy...lucky you!!
ReplyDeleteAh thank you so much. I do feel very Blessed!
DeleteWhat cute photos to accompany the post. My baby falls asleep really similarly. She nurses, but stops from time to time to chatter away, pull my hair, reach for blankets and everything in her reach, only to begin nursing again and eventually fall asleep. Isn't it fun having the privilege to spend those last waking moments with your baby? I love it! Thanks for sharing with Monday Mom Musings this week, Elizabeth!
ReplyDelete:) Yes it is a privelage. :) I think it is a good sign of fun little personalities in them to be in such a good mood at night. :) What a joy!
