Raining philosophy

This Saturday morning has consisted of waking up to a steady sleepy rain,  me making a yummy smoothy while Barry makes Bacon,  spending some good time with God, and typing up my "philosophy " of teaching CLD students.   
Not a bad day, but I'm so ready to have this paper over with!  My legs seem to be attached to the couch right now....

The work heavy.

What a month this has been for my students! Between deportations of students parents and the life threatening dangers that come with it, the news of a sweet student moving back to Mexico, and a student with a parent leaving for Mexico so he can die with his family...... I have quite a heavy heart for them right now. It is so frustrating to see what some students have to go through in their external environment. How can we expect them to be focused on academics when they are faced with decisions and burdens that most adults don't even experience. I pray for their hearts to be lifted, so that they can skip, jump, learn and play the way they are meant to. They teach me something every day, and definitely know how to make me laugh (though many times unintentionally).
I came home from work to try and knock out this paper. Though that thought was a little ambitious I did manage to put a good portion of it into play and will be ready to finish up tomorrow. We had a great date night at Bellini's around 8:30. I ran into an old friend from the ski team, Katherine Wheeler and was able to catch up with her a bit. Laura and a friend of hers dropped in for a second to say hi as they were walking by and found our paths crossing. Our meal was delicious, and we enjoyed a bottle of wine from Friolia, Italy. Taking the time to slow down and enjoy each other, our conversations, laughs, and looks never lose their delight.

GNO on a Thursday

Today I began tutoring a new student from another elementary school. She's super sweet and should be a joy to work with. We met at the Eagle Creek library and while there, I ran into two students I had last year. :) It was great to see there sweet faces and amazing how much they had grown both physically and linguistically.
After tutoring I came home to see Barry and Keightley and change into some comfortable clothing. Then it was off to Bar Louie for some girl time with a lil' Southern El crew consisting of Toni, Laura, Stacey, Susan, Stephanie R, Katie, and Jen. Toni had told us the comedian Hal Sparks(from I love the 80's) was coming to Comedy off Broadway, and organized our fun little gathering. While at Bar Louie I ran into Cindy, David, and Hunter her were there to enjoy family time before David heads off to race this weekend. As usual, seeing them put a huge smile on my face! The girls and I had a food marathon as we scarfed down our meal in order to make it to the comedy show (late).
The opening comedian was less than amusing. We were all more entertained by the fact that Hal and his Mom were sitting with us than anything else....Katie recognized him and introduced herself which led to everyone shaking his hand like a 12 year old at a Justin Beiber concert. haha
We had some great laughs, most of his material was pop culture referenced and his delivery was times unique, but in a funny bone tickling kind of way. It was a nice way to spend a Thursday, and TG tomorrow IF!

Good News!

Spring is coming, the signs are everywhere and its more than exciting!   Pepaw got good news from his Dr. Today and will be working towards a good recovery.    I was named director to Camp Invention to be held at Southern this summer.  Jorts and the boys got a close win last night making the homestreak for Cals Cats 34 now!
Blessings and good things all around!   I'm feeling like this will be great evening to finish a paper!

National Jorts Day?

Yes that's right it's Jorts Senior day, however I will not be participating in that dress up game! Today was beautiful and after the serious torrential downpours from the prior 24 hours it was so nice to see the sun. Hopefully the grass seed enjoyed it too! :)
One of my most precious students returned today after being in Vietnam for a month and a half visiting family. It was great to see her, and interesting to watch the language change that has occurred in such a short amount of time.
I fertilized all of our bulbs today and Barry used the new cordless hedge trimmer to attack some of our grasses. Tonight I have attempted to knock out a paper due on Sunday but have found procrastination like a freshman in undergrad. It is senior night and the Cats take on Vandy. He is taking Chris Stamatkin to his first ever game at Rupp and I'm sure they'll have a great time! 9:00 games are just not teacher friendly. I will be finishing watching the game with Keightley, curled up in bed!
