Yes I am so stoked.  You probably saw my headband post last week.  I have had so much fun with them since and have had several people asking me to make some for them.  Score!!!!

I was absolutely thrilled to see LMM's post about featuring our headbands from the challenge, and then to see my picture and link up there!!!!!!  .  I guess others like my headband styles too!  :)  This makes me smile.    Thanks LMM for a fun idea!

First Day of School

The first day of school has taken on several different roles in my life.  The prep work has remained consistently the same.  By new school crayons, notebooks, and pencils, pick out the first day outfit, pack my lunch and get nervous.

As a child my first day would always begin with a picture by the big rock in our side yard that would measure our growth from one grade to the next.
This is me and the rock, entering 1st grade.  :)

Mom, or Mom and Dad would then drive us to school to walk us into class.  (This was the part that required teachers to have a box of Kleenex ready for my Mom, as it became well known that the first day brought tears).  :) (how sweet!)  I was always nervous, and tended to be a pretty shy kid until I got warmed up to people.  The day would roll on, I would learn where my cubby was, what the new kids name was, and learn where everyone went over the summer.  Soon enough the day would be over and I would be at home with Mom, Dad, my sisters, and a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies, as was the Miller first day of school tradition.

23 years later, and not much has changed.  I now have to pack my own lunch, pick out my own outfit, and I've replaced chocolate chip cookies with a good glass of red wine.   Yes my attitude some how has shifted to

The funny thing is since age 5 I haven't had a year where the month of August didn't mean going back to school.  It's a youthful dread, and excitement that a teacher will never escape.  :)

Summer ending is always sad.  But the dread quickly faded for me Thursday morning with the return of my sweet kids faces.  I love hearing what they've been up to and seeing them actually delighted to return to school.
However I love the pool and time off too so........
Let the countdown begin.

What I've Learned Wednesday

Since last Wednesday I have learned:

  1. Chipmunks are not all like Alvin.  Some eat all your tomatoes and you wish great harm upon them.
  2. Sometimes God tests us.  As in multiple tests.  ( I picture Jackie Chan fighting the abominable snowman).
  3. My favorite show on television,Rubicon was canceled.
  4. A cup of milk has more protein than a hard boiled egg.
  5. How to make a headband.
  6. Pushing yourself physically can make you grow mentally.
  7. I love the Mob week on AMC.
  8. Hot glue can rip off your skin.
  9. Going back to school isn't any easier at 28 than it is when your 11.
What have you learned lately?

Weekend Update

In the past few days I have made a real effort to not think about what is coming this week.  (the dreaded first day of school!)
B and I have filled our time with family and friends and just enjoying our house too.

Mom and Dad came up for dinner since I didn't get to see them on my birthday.  It was a wonderful visit and was much needed.
Saturday night we had the pleasure of celebrating the upcoming wedding of Ryan and Whitney.  They are our friends who live out in San Francisco, so it was a total treat to be able to see them.  Their theme was cowboy and city girl and they couldn't have looked cuter!
The beautiful bride to be eating her fabulously pink cupcakes!

It was also a great opportunity for us to see many of our friends from Louisville and Bowling Green that we rarely get to visit with.  We had a blast catching up with everyone.  We are really looking forward to seeing them again soon in just a few weeks as we all head out west for Win and Liz's wedding.  :)
Their first event without Callan.  :)  They are both just too happy to have them in their life.  :)  So precious!

Adorably L

The Bachman girls were in attendance and loved being held by everyone.  I can't believe how big they have gotten!  Such a precious thing to see!  :)

Flower Headbands-If you can't buy em', Make em'

Last week Little Miss Momma (my favorite blogger in blogland) asked her readers to join her in a headband challenge.  I of course jumped at the challenge, through this process I have had quite the headband revelation!

So if ya like this post please head over to her site and hit the thumbs up LIKE link under my pic.  :)  Thanks Friends!

What? this isn't super cool either?  Geez!
I discovered immediately that the headbands I own (and never wear unless I'm at home, in a closet, or washing my face) are antiquated.
What you don't think this looks good?

LMM had examples of herself and others in the world adorning these beautiful headbands and wearing them well.    Like this:
Posted on LMM from Just.Lovely.Things

Any time I've seen people in my neck of the woods sporting these types of headbands they have been unable to walk or feed themselves.

So a double challenge occurred:  A. Wear cute headbands.
                                                                          B. Where to find cute headbands?
Well of course I could find a million on Etsy, but they would never have shipped on time.  So I went to all our local boutiques asking if they had any...." Um you mean like a baby headband?"  No I mean like the super cool girl headbands silly!  Goodness!  (I think I could teach them a thing or two)

So I did the only thing I could do.....I wore the only cute headband I owned
P.S. Taking pictures of yourself is harder than it looks.  Props to all you bloggers out there loving yourself with your cameras.
A. It makes you feel weird.
B. It makes you look a little self absorbed.
C. It's inevitable that you will snap 40 pics to find one you can live with.  :)

I purchased the only cute headband I could find in this town.  At The Black Market.

And I made the rest.    GO ME!  Maybe these stores around town should purchase some from me?

Oh and did you know that dog's can wear headbands too???

Pinsperations

A few months ago I started a Pinterest account.  At the time I felt like I was living under a rock, as most bloggers would state "I know Pinterest has been around for a while", or "Everyone's been pinning forever but".  I felt like a loser for not knowing what it was.  SO without an invite I signed up, and about a week and a half later I received an invite from the site.  Busy with graduate work and life I didn't do much exploring.
However I have become obsessed with it.  It's the best way to organize all the amazing things you see on the internet.  I think of it as my virtual cork board of inspirations.  This week they came out with an app.......Can we say DOUBLE the Addiction?   B had to remind me that the 5:15 alarm would be coming too soon last night and that I should probably put my phone to sleep.  Yeeeeesh!   Maybe I should have a no phone in bed rule right?  :)

So as I have found that I can spend hours, days, maybe even decades looking at blogs and cute ideas.  I am inspired by two things.

yes i totally got this sign from a pinterest search.  :)

The summer is coming to a close.  Not much on my ambitious list got accomplished.  Although three grad classes now stand on my checklist as done.  I am going to shut the Mac.  Go downstairs and sew, hot glue, or Cricut for 45 minutes, before I have to head back up to school to work on that classroom o' mine.  Orientation is tonight.....Can we believe this?

A Weekend to Celebrate

I absolutely 100% adore birthdays!  Not just mine, but any birthday.  Any reason to celebrate someone is always a fun time to me!
This weekend was a special weekend of birthday extravaganzas because my birthday falls on the 30th and my mother in laws is on the 31st, which equals two days of cake, candles, cheersing, and food.  :)

My morning began with my favorite birthday tradition, streamers!  My parents always had streamers waiting outside my bedroom door and it was a great way to start the festivities.  Barry has sweetly carried on that tradition and I absolutely love it.  Beyond the streamers B had chocolate doughnuts with a candle, and my birthday lovelies waiting.  :)  He's too good!

For my birthday we had a great dinner at Regatta with wonderful friends and family.  My sweet friend Ali offered to make my birthday cake and have everyone back to their house afterward.  Not only did she make a delicious chocolate chip cake but a key lime pie to boot!  Hello Happiness!  I hope I'm that ambitious with a newborn someday!  :)
Ali and sweet Woods dressed for the Boathouse

Brian and sweet little Harper.

Woods fast asleep.

Sweet Sista!

It was a perfect evening to be outside and I enjoyed every minute of it!  I have been blessed beyond belief with a wonderful set of friends and a family who lives close.  There are many things to be thankful for every day but I am especially gracious today.

For Karen's birthday we headed out to Jean Ferris for a delicious brunch.  It was a perfect setting for celebrating as usual.  Don had picked up a delicious cake from Magees Bakery and we all stuffed ourselves silly back at their house.  We enjoyed a lazy afternoon of relaxing and celebrating the lovely lady of the day!

What a fantastic weekend of fun!
